CEO Update
For those who may have missed the news article published earlier this month, my name is Judith Blake, and I am currently serving as the interim CEO of the ABCB Office. This is a temporary appointment and in time, I expect to be able to share more about an open recruitment process to select a permanent CEO.
The past few months have been a particularly busy period for the ABCB, with the conclusion of the caretaker period and the outcome of the Federal Election. This has also been a time of transition for our office, as we’ve recently been informed that we are moving to a new Commonwealth portfolio in the coming weeks.
You can find more details about this departmental move below.
ABCB's move to Treasury
As part of the Commonwealth Administrative Arrangement Orders (AAOs), we are moving to Treasury to support the Australian Government Minister for Housing, as she is taking on the responsibilities for building and construction industry and chair of the Building Minister’s Meeting. This move will provide greater alignment, efficiency and focus to implement the government’s important housing agenda.
Our office has been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming departmental move, while also continuing to advance key initiatives—most notably, the development of the National Scheme for Manufacturer Certification of Prefabricated and Modular Construction.
Although we are still in the early stages of this transition, the ABCB is committed to keeping you informed as plans progress. We understand the importance of maintaining the confidence and trust of the individuals and organisations who engage with our work, and we remain focused on upholding that commitment throughout this period of change.
Upcoming Board and Committee meetings
The Board met on Tuesday 27 May and there are arrangements in train to schedule a meeting before the end of the month. The Building Codes Committee (BCC) meeting has been postponed but the Plumbing Codes Committee (PCC) will meet on Tuesday 17 June.
If you would like more information on the key discussions that occur in the Board meetings, we provide updates on our Board page.
Thank you and let’s build a better future together!
Kind regards
Judith Blake
