We have worked with the Department of Industry, Science and Resources Data Strategy team and the Digital Atlas of Australia team at Geoscience Australia to create a new and improved interactive climate map.

The ABCB Climate Map, now available on our website, brings together the existing National Construction Code (NCC) climate zones* with comprehensive geospatial data and Local Government Area (LGA) boundaries that allows users to determine zoning classifications within each area. The map also details the relative humidity patterns and designated alpine regions.

By combining several dynamic layers and static reference maps, this new map provides a more comprehensive view and aims to increase the users' understanding of different locations. The information retrieved can help to demonstrate compliance with the NCC across various areas, such as energy efficiency and condensation.

The data on the map covers:

  • Existing NCC climate zones
  • Local Government Area boundaries
  • Relative humidity
  • Alpine area classifications

Key features of the map include:

  • Customisable base maps - choose from multiple base maps to suit your specific project needs.
  • Advanced search capabilities - search by address, suburb, or postcode to identify the applicable NCC climate zone for your address, even in newly developed areas, using the most recent base maps and LGAs.
  • Create reports - generate and share reports containing all necessary information to support planning, approvals, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Filters - find locations by climate-related criteria.
  • Interactive tools - includes drawing tools, measurement features, swipe comparisons and many more.

This map will be useful for professionals in the building and construction industry, such as architects, engineers, builders, contractors and designers. Additionally, local authorities, regulatory bodies, industry experts, educators, and property owners can also utilise these maps to ensure compliance.

This climate map is just one of many resources available on our website to help practitioners of all experience levels understand and apply the NCC. If you have any questions about the map, please contact us

*The 8 climate zones included in the map use Bureau of Meteorology climatic data with 2 supplementary zones added to accommodate an additional temperate zone and alpine area. You can download this data from data.gov.au
